The legalneer.ai platform is a non-commercial research project led by Prof. Dr. Thomas Maier, HTWG Konstanz, and data scientist Dr. Vincent Kuhn, which aims to advance the application-oriented digitization of core legal activities. Until a few years ago, digitization only covered subordinate areas of legal work processes. The main activities remained reserved for humans, which is why IT was mainly given a supporting role. With the establishment of the so-called “Large Language Models” such as the GPT series from OpenAI, the technological boundaries have fundamentally shifted because direct communication with legal documents in natural language is now possible. In this context, the legalneer.ai team is working on the question of how core legal activities, such as answering legal questions or preparing legal opinions, can be reliably and practically automated and scaled with the help of artificial intelligence. The insights gained should help companies, law firms and other organizations to make their legal workflows more efficient without sacrificing service quality or neglecting data protection and information security requirements. The focus is on providing the best possible access to the relevant technologies for smaller companies, universities and students. Tools provided by the legalneer.ai platform will be used to develop best practice use cases, prompt standards and benchmarks in a publicly accessible form.
